When we first started looking for renovation contractors in Portugal as foreigners, we quickly ran into the same problem everyone talks about. Word of mouth only goes so far. Online directories are full of outdated listings. And finding someone who could actually communicate in English, show up on time, and deliver what they promised felt harder than it should be.
We got burned. We heard stories from others who did too. So instead of complaining about it, we decided to fix it.
What we do
Remodel.pt is a curated network of verified renovation contractors in Portugal. We do the vetting work upfront so you do not have to. Every contractor's construction licence (alvará) is checked directly against IMPIC registry records, not self-reported. We also confirm liability insurance and call project references before anyone joins the network.
When you submit a request, we match you with the right contractor for your project and location, benchmark the quote against regional medians, and pair it with an independent pre-renovation inspection. See the full step-by-step process.

Who we are
Pascal is originally from Switzerland and has lived in Portugal for several years. He has first-hand experience with the permit, VAT, and contractor issues foreign owners run into when renovating here, and built remodel.pt to be the resource he wished existed when he started.
Remodel.pt is run by a small, hands-on team based in Portugal, with backgrounds in property, renovation, and building businesses online. We have gone through the renovation process ourselves and built this platform because we wanted it to exist.

How we work, and how to verify it
We don't ask you to take our vetting process on faith. Every claim we make about a contractor is checkable:
- ·Construction licences (alvará) are verified against the public IMPIC registry, the same source you can check yourself.
- ·Every guide on this site is written by our own team based on completed remodel.pt projects, not scraped or AI-generated at a distance from the market.
- ·Guides carry a visible author and a "last updated" date, and are revised when Portuguese regulation changes (most recently: DL 10/2024, the EPBD renovation passport rollout, and IMT reform).
- ·We are free for property owners. Contractors pay a referral fee only on completed projects, so our incentive is your project succeeding, not the volume of leads we send.
